Zeami Equinox Boat Golden Cruising This imaginative work creates the Japanese playwright Zeami’s study.Zeami was banished to the island of Sado, which was a higan, or “opposite shore”. During higan, or the equinoctial week in autumn, the golden terraced rice fields undulate, and the study with the domed, open-timbered roof transforms into a boat and sets out for the opposite shore. Kaigu It is a stone sculpture that can be moved anywhere, a “relocatable art object.”In today’s rapidly evolving information society, where desired information can be easily obtained and people can meet on the internet, we named the sculpture “Kaigu” with the hope that Genki Plaza grows as a community hub, bringing more people together and becoming a platform for disseminating information about Sayama. “Iwakubi Shoryu Tanada” at an elevation exceeding 350 meters PrevNext local farmers will be your guide♪Stroll and Onigiri experience These terraced rice fields, passed down since the Edo period, number about 460 plots today. The terraced fields came to be called “Iwakubi Ascending Dragon Terraces” because they connect like a dragon ascending into the sky. They’ll also guide you to “Yoro no Taki (Yoro Falls)” , a 29-meter-high waterfall near the terraced rice fields. Along the way, they’ll explain many things you wouldn’t know just by walking—such as plants with unusual shapes and textures, and edible plants. Lunch: Delicious Onigiri! At lunchtime, you can enjoy making rice balls using rice cooked from terraced field rice. The variety is called “Koshihikari BL,” a Niigata Prefecture-designated variety introduced to promote environmentally friendly and safe rice cultivation.Rice grown under the full morning sun develops a rich sweetness, making it so delicious! Exploring Island Life PrevNext During this tour, you will visit two villages in addition to Iwakubi village.Oogawa Outdoor Print Museum The exterior walls of the house are decorated with woodblock prints created by local residents. The artwork depicts scenes of life in Ōgawa, offering glimpses into seasonal events and time-honored customs. Whale Memorial Tower “Katanoo” boasts a rich natural environment that was home to the last wild Toki birds. The village also has a “Whale Memorial Tower.” In 1860, a whale approximately 30 meters long washes ashore. It is said that the compassionate people of Katanoo mourned its jawbone to build this memorial tower. Small-group leisurely tours You’ll travel comfortably in a jumbo taxi (shared ride).
