INFORMATION ABOUT BAGGAGE

Baggage allowed on board 

Size

The total of the 3 sides is less than 2 meters.

Quantity

Up to 2 items per person 
※More than two items can be brought in if our company deems that there is no obstacle to their transportation.

Weight

30 kg or less 

Article 2, paragraph (4) of the General Conditions of Carriage

“Carry-on items” mean articles that a passenger carries or brings with them into the cabin and that fall under any of the following items:

  1. Items whose sum of the length of three sides is less than two meters and whose weight is less than 30 kilograms.
  2. Wheelchair (must be the one used by the passenger)
  3. Assistance dogs for the physically disabled (guide dogs, service dogs, and hearing dogs as prescribed in Article 2 of the Act on Assistance Dogs for Physically Disabled Persons (Act No. 49 of 2002), which are indicated in accordance with the provisions of Article 12 of the same Act)
Article 4 of the General Conditions of Carriage

Each passenger is allowed to bring only two carry-on items into the cabin.
However, if our company deems that everything will be fine with the baggage sizes and the vessel’s transportation capacity on which the passenger is boarding, etc., the passenger may bring in more than two carry-on items.

About baggage fees

Any pieces of baggage whose sum of the three dimensions (length + width + height) exceeds two meters will be subject to the following baggage fees per item.
On the day of your boarding, please purchase baggage tickets from a ticket vending machine or at the Ticket Counter. (Reservations can be made in advance.)

※All bicycle wheels must be stored in bicycle bags. Please note that if the wheels are not completely covered, we may not allow you to bring them on board.
※Guide dogs, hearing dogs, service dogs with service dog markings – A wheelchair used by the passenger is considered a carry-on item (free of charge).

Baggage is not allowed on board 

Our company may refuse to accept carry-on items if they fall into the following categories.

Article 4, paragraph (2) of the General Conditions of Carriage
  1. Items that emit odors, that are filthy, or otherwise may cause inconvenience to other passengers
  2. Firearms, swords, or other items that may cause harm to other passengers, to other items, or to the vessel when used 
  3. Explosives or other items that may cause harm to other passengers, to other items, or to the vessel
  4. Corpses 
  5. Live animals (excluding those listed in Article 2, paragraph (4), item (iii) of the General Conditions of Carriage)
  6. Other items deemed unsuitable for carriage

If there is a suspicion that a piece of baggage falls under any of the above categories, we may inspect it in the presence of the passenger or a third party.

Hazardous items (firearms, swords, explosives, etc.)
Items emitting odors, such as kerosene, gasoline, etc.

Onboard Baggage Storage Area

Please personally take care of your cash and valuables yourself. In the event of any loss or damage, our company cannot assume any responsibility.

Okesamaru (Niigata-Ryotsu Route)

The Baggage Storage Area is located in the Entrance Hall on the 3rd floor.
There are also coin lockers on board for your use (for a fee).

Tokiwamaru (Niigata-Ryotsu Route)

The Baggage Storage Area is located under the stairs of the Entrance Hall on the 3rd floor. There are also coin lockers on board for your use(for a fee) .

Jetfoil (Niigata-Ryotsu Route)

A baggage storage area is located near the entrance on the right side of the ship’s direction of travel on the first floor.

Koganemaru (Naoetsu-Ogi Route)

The Baggage Storage Area is located in front of the ferry’s Information Desk in the center of the 3rd floor.

Compensation for damages

Our company shall only be liable for compensation for any damage resulting from the loss or damage of carry-on baggage and other items stored by our passengers if it is proven that the loss or damage was due to our company’s or our employees’ negligence.
